Andria Lisle's food writing has been published in the pages of the Memphis Flyer, Paste Magazine, and most recently, Garden & Gun. She enned the Memphis chapter of the upcoming guidebook Where the Locals Eat, and wrote about several regional restaurants in her book Waking Up in Memphis, which was published by Sanctuary Press in 2003. For Christmas last year, she asked for—and received—her mother's treasured gumbo recipe, a family heirloom.

Mark Kelly a former sports writer, now works for Lodge Manufacturing in South Pittsbirg, Tennessee.

Angela Knipple lives in midtown Memphis with her husband, son and a motley crew of cats, turtles and chickens. When she's not having fun at home, she and her family travel and eat wherever they end up. Carol Penn-Romine
Carol Penn-Romine is a writer, chef and culinary tour guide who enjoys exploring different cultures and their cuisines. She established Hungry Passport Culinary Adventures to share her love of food and travel with others. Currently, her work is focused in Ireland, where the international spotlight now shines on its artisanal food traditions. Her wanderlust began at an early age, and this west Tennessee farm girl says her mother dressed her in red so she could find her in her perambulations around the back forty. She spent 15 years in Memphis, working as a writer and conducting tours of the city and region, before moving to Los Angeles. There she earned a Le Cordon Bleu degree and plunged into the culinary scene as a member of SlowFood, the International Association of Culinary Professionals and Culinary Historians of Southern California. She returns home as often as possible to indulge in her own personal trinity: dry ribs, country ham and fried catfish. Kjeld Petersen brings the experiences of almost 30 years as a chef, cookbook author, culinary instructor and lecturer to the pages of Edible Memphis. He is a tireless campaigner for authentic regional foods and farm-to-chef programs. He has developed and runs educational programs about the importance of local foods for our own health and for the health of our communities. Kjeld has been widely recognized for his cuisine based on fresh, seasonal and local ingredients prepared in ways that accentuate natural flavors. Kjeld keeps a busy schedule of events, appearances, lectures and presentations across the country, but always seems to find the time to walk around a field ready for harvest, take pleasure in a farmers' market, or to savor a bite or twenty of barbecue.

Liz Phillips Although she's originally from New York, Liz Phillips moved to Memphis from Chicago five and a half years ago. Her work on a series of articles about traditionally-raised meat in the Mid-South is providing her with many pleasurable research opportunities.

carole topalianCarole Topalian Edible Communities co-founder, Carole Topalian, travels the world with a finely tuned photographer's eye. Her ability to communicate through photographs brings the Edible Communities mission to life as visual feast, and the pages of our newsletters and websites testify to this. In addition to her work as photographer for Edible Communities, Carole also serves as creative director for the company, ensuring the highest possible level of quality and consistency in each of our printed newsletters and websites. During the 1980s, Carole owned a Los Angeles-based multimedia company where she produced several award-winning advertising and promotional campaigns for corporate America. In the 1990s, she did graduate work in depth psychology at Pacific Graduate Institute and left the corporate world behind. Today, she enjoys life in the very rural Ojai Valley, where she is able to ride her bike daily and garden at will. Barbara Kingsolver
Barbara Kingsolver’s published books, translated into 19 languages, include The Bean Trees, The Poisonwood Bible, and Prodigal Summer. Kingsolver lives with her family on a farm in southwestern Virginia. This excerpt comes from her latest book, Animal, Vegetable, Miracle: A Year of Food Life (HarperCollins, 2007), which she wrote with her husband, Steven Hopp, who teaches Environmental Studies at Emory & Henry College, and daughter Camille Kingsolver, who studies biology, anatomy and dance, and teaches yoga at Duke University.

Nancy Kistler

Emily Romines
Emily Romines recently graduated from the University of Mississippi with a Masters Degree in Southern Studies. She continues to reside in Oxford, Mississippi, although she misses her home town of St. Louis, Missouri.

Bryant Terry
Born and raised in Memphis, Bryant Terry is an Oakland, California-based whole foods chef, food justice activist, and founder of b-healthy! (Build Healthy Eating and Lifestyles to Help Youth).  His first book, Grub: Ideas for an Urban Organic Kitchen (coauthored with Anna Lappé with a foreword by Eric Schlosser), celebrates local, healthy, sustainable food for everyone.  Bryant and his recipes have been featured in The New York Times, The San Francisco Chronicle, Gourmet, Food and Wine, and many other publications.  He recently completed filming The Endless Feast, a 13-episode series that explores the connection between the earth and the food on our plates, which will air on PBS in the spring of 2007.  Bryant is working on his second book In Search of Soul Grub.
